Hoodia Gordonii
Important News For Our Hoodia Customers
The MHRA has requested that Hoodia Gordonii be removed from sale in the UK. Hoodia Gordonii has been classified as a medicinal herb in the UK and as a result we would now require a medical license to sell Hoodia. The following extract is taken from the MHRA correspondence..."Hoodia Gordonii is a South African cactus, historically used by the bushmen of the Kalahari desert to prevent hunger on long hunting trips. Various studies have established that the plant contains a chemical extract known as P57, which has been shown to cause an artificial modification to the neurological functions responsible for controlling appetite. As neurological functions are a part of human physiology, alteration or interference with their normal activity falls within the second limb of the definition of a medicinal product."
We would like to apologise to our UK customers for being unable to continue to supply you with Hoodia Gordonii. The MHRA inform us that they have made this same request to hundreds of Hoodia suppliers in the UK. We have immediately complied as a reputable supplier.
Our warning about unscrupulous suppliers of Hoodia remains. Many hoodia products contain no active P57 molecule. If you shop elsewhere for your Hoodia please ensure that the website shows you the CITES certificate to prove it is genuine South African Hoodia Gordonii AND that it shows you independent laboratory analysis to prove that it is "top grade" Hoodia Gordonii (P57 concentration equal to or greater than 0.15%).
